Laurie completed her Associate Degree in Nursing, Golden West College (Huntington Beach); Bachelors of Science in Nursing, California State University, Fullerton; Masters of Science in Nursing-Clinical Nurse Specialist/Education, University of San Diego; and Doctor of Nursing Practice-Systems Leadership, Rush University (Chicago).
Laurie has over 30 years of professional nursing experience in health care as a practitioner, educator, and administrator including specializing in Orthopedics, Med-Surg, and Critical Care as Staff Nurse, Educator and Clinical Nurse Specialist. She has served in nursing administration as Nursing Director for Orthopedics and Med-Surg. Passionate about orthopedic nursing is an active member of the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses. She has held many committee positions, served on the Executive Board and was 23rd President of the Association.
After completing her Doctorate, Laurie made a move to academia as faculty in both Associate Degree Nursing and graduate nursing programs. She taught for several years in Advanced Med-Surg/Critical Care Nursing at her alma mater Golden West College and Nursing Leadership at the graduate level. Laurie continued working for the California Community College system and is currently the Orange County Regional Director for Health Workforce Initiative.
